Signs of the Times – The Mark of the Beast

Revelation 13:16-17 – “He required everyone–small and great, rich and poor, free and slave–to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name.”

The ability to track every move we make is already here!

‘Smart Cities’ Will Know Everything About You

From Boston to Beijing, municipalities and governments across the world are pledging billions to create “smart cities”—urban areas covered with Internet-connected devices that control citywide systems, such as transit, and collect data. Although the details can vary, the basic goal is to create super-efficient infrastructure, aid urban planning and improve the well-being of the populace.

A byproduct of a tech utopia will be a prodigious amount of data collected on the inhabitants. For instance, at the company I head, we recently undertook an experiment in which some staff volunteered to wear devices around the clock for 10 days. We monitored more than 170 metrics reflecting their daily habits and preferences—including how they slept, where they traveled and how they felt (a fast heart rate and no movement can indicate excitement or stress).

If the Internet age has taught us anything, it’s that where there is information, there is money to be made. With so much personal information available and countless ways to use it, businesses and authorities will be faced with a number of ethical questions.

In a fully “smart” city, every movement an individual makes can be tracked. The data will reveal where she works, how she commutes, her shopping habits, places she visits and her proximity to other people. You could argue that this sort of tracking already exists via various apps and on social-media platforms, or is held by public-transport companies and e-commerce sites. The difference is that with a smart city this data will be centralized and easy to access. Given the value of this data, it’s conceivable that municipalities or private businesses that pay to create a smart city will seek to recoup their expenses by selling it.

By analyzing this information using data-science techniques, a company could learn not only the day-to-day routine of an individual but also his preferences, behavior and emotional state. Private companies could know more about people than they know about themselves.

For marketers, this is a dream come true. Imagine the scenario: A beverage company knows a particular individual’s Friday or Saturday night routine. The company knows what he drinks, when he drinks, who he drinks with and where he goes. It also knows how the weather affects what beverage the individual chooses and how changes in work patterns influence how much alcohol he consumes. By combining this information with the individual’s social-media profile, the company could send marketing messages to the person when he is most susceptible to the suggestion to buy a drink.

Businesses could market divorce services to couples who, through data analysis, are shown to exhibit behavior that indicates that their relationship could be in trouble—things like unusual travel patterns, and changes in work-life balance, such as a rapid increase in the amount of time both individuals spend at work or in separate bars. Individuals who are shown to lead very unhealthy lifestyles could be deliberately targeted by brands selling fatty foods.

The scenarios are endless, ranging from the genuinely useful to the potentially terrifying. But what will moderate how a smart city works and how brands can use data?

Recent history—issues of privacy and security on social networks and chatting apps, and questions about how intellectual-property regulations apply online—has shown that the law has been slow to catch up with digital innovations. So businesses that can purchase smart-city data will be presented with many strategic and ethical concerns.

What degree of targeting is too specific and violates privacy? Should businesses limit the types of goods or services they offer to certain individuals? Is it ethical for data—on an employee’s eating habits, for instance—to be sold to employers or to insurance companies to help them assess claims? Do individuals own their own personal data once it enters the smart-city system?

With or without stringent controlling legislation, businesses in a smart city will need to craft their own policies and procedures regarding the use of data. A large-scale misuse of personal data could provoke a consumer backlash that could cripple a company’s reputation and lead to monster lawsuits. An additional problem is that businesses won’t know which individuals might welcome the convenience of targeted advertising and which will find it creepy—although data science could solve this equation eventually by predicting where each individual’s privacy line is.

A smart city doesn’t have to be as Orwellian as it sounds. If businesses act responsibly, there is no reason why what sounds intrusive in the abstract can’t revolutionize the way people live for the better by offering services that anticipates their needs; by designing ultraefficient infrastructure that makes commuting a (relative) dream; or with a revolutionary approach to how energy is generated and used by businesses and the populace at large.

Signs of the Times – The Mark of the Beast is much closer than you think!

Revelation 13:16 – “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads, AND NO MAN MIGHT BUY OR SELL, SAVE HE THAT HAD THE MARK, OR THE NAME OF THE BEAST, OR THE NUMBER OF HIS NAME!

Very interesting interview with Jim Rickards. Think about the things he says at the beginning and ending of the interview. Money is already digital. With one executive order, access to money can be limited. How long would you be able to make it should the government shut down or limit the amount of money  you can access from the atm or bank? How much cash do you have on hand? What if a cyber attack shuts down the banking system? What if cyber attack collapses the stock market? In this day and age all of these things are not possibilities but probabilities. It is only a matter of time before a game changing event affects the entire monetary system! Everything we do is already being tracked via smart phones, computers and government surveillance systems, etc… Remember the movie, “Enemy of the State”? Those days are here! The technology for a chip or some other identifying mark being used to pay bills, access money, shop, or attend an event is already available. What would you do if you wake up one day and are told that the only way you will be able to access your money, shop, pay bills or receive medical treatment is by taking a chip? Could it happen? Would you take it?

US company gives glimpse into future of government surveillance

A SMALL private firm in the US has developed a surveillance system of Orwellian proportions that could very well be the future of big brother.

Thirty kilometres above a chosen city, a plane hangs out of sight of the thousands of people scurrying below — continuously circling the metropolis underneath. Every second, the plane takes a photo of the entire city and all the happenings within a 64sq km radius. The images are beamed down to a control centre where they create what is akin to a real-time Google map of everything taking place.

When a crime occurs, teams of analysts simply scroll back in time to the scene of the incident and identify those involved. From that point, they can follow the target by clicking forward through the images to the present moment and pinpoint their location.

Ostensibly, surveillance is about preventing and prosecuting crimes — and while it’s only been used in a handful of cities, Persistent Surveillance Systems (PSS) are designed to do just that.

The times it has been used on US soil, the tool has allowed authorities to solve crimes in a matter of minutes.

According to PPS founder Ross McNutt, the concept was conceived over a few beers at the pub, with the initial plans drawn up on the back of a napkin.

“We developed the system quickly to get an initial capability (within) about 18 months. We have since spent the last eight years perfecting it, lowering the cost, and increasing the effectiveness,” he told news.com.au.

It was thought up in an attempt to help the war effort in Iraq, which wasn’t looking good for the US in 2004.

“The IEDs (improvised explosive device) were killing many of our troops and our commander asked that we see what we could do to help,” he said.

Ross McNutt was teaching at the Airforce Institute of Technology at the time and the desire to aid US troops against the guerilla tactics used by those loyal to Saddam Hussein was felt strongly among faculty and students.

“We developed an idea that would allow us to track bombers back to the place they came from so we could then address the source of the bombs,” he said.

The idea proved immensely useful in capturing those planting IEDs and the air force has since spent more than $US1 billion ($A1.3 billion) to improve and enhance the system.

In fact, the results proved so compelling that it wasn’t long before the US military looked closer to home with thoughts of putting an eye in the sky over some of its own cities.

With the success of the technology in Iraq, the US government has since used Persistent Surveillance Systems to address high crime rates in cities such as Dayton, Ohio.

For Mr McNutt, it’s simply an economic argument.

According to the National Institute of Justice, Dayton Ohio has 27,000 reported crimes per year, 70 to 80 per day and nearly 10,000 serious crimes, such as rape, murder and assault, which amount to a cost of $US3400 per person each year.

“PSS believes we will contribute to reducing the crime in Dayton by 20 per cent to 30 per cent,” Mr McNutt said. He said this would amount to a yearly saving of $US96 million to $US144 million.

After a five-day trial in June of 2012, the results proved exciting to law enforcement and the police chief recommended a permanent expansion of the services.

However the city decided to hold a public forum to debate the idea and only about 75 people turned up. Due to the high rates of crime, many were supportive of having the surveillance plane overhead. But others, a slightly smaller but very vocal group, were opposed and ultimately dissuaded the city from adopting the service. At least for the time being.

The company says it has about $US150 million in proposals and is waiting to hear if its services will be enlisted. It has negotiated with the cities of Baltimore, Philadelphia, Moscow and London.

The company has also carried out a contract for a classified client to combat cartel violence in Mexico.

As with all forms of surveillance, PSS ignites a debate about the trade off between civil freedoms and the lengths we should be willing to go to prevent crime. But Mr McNutt said they had made assurances to allay such concerns.  Continue reading

Russia claims to have super weapon that disables western satellites and long range arms

Russia is boasting a major advance in electronic warfare technology enablingVladimir Putin’s armed forces to zap foreign military satellites, and “switch off” enemy weapons.

The new system will muzzle the guidance systems of Western cruise missiles and other high-precision arms, it is claimed.

Its Russian makers say it is a “fundamentally new electronic warfare system” which can be mounted on ground-based as well as air- and sea-borne carriers.

Russia’s Radio-Electronic Technologies Group (KRET) deputy chief Yuri Mayevsky said: “The system will target the enemy’s deck-based, tactical, long-range and strategic aircraft, electronic means and suppress foreign military satellites’ radio-electronic equipment.”

“It will not be based on satellites as this is prohibited by international rules and we comply with this rule.”

The Russian hailing of its new super weapon comes as relations with the West are at their lowest ebb since the collapse of the Soviet Union, with fears of a new Cold War.

President Vladimir Putin has invested heavily in rebuilding his country’s military might, which has lagged behind the West since the end of the Soviet era.

The new technology “will fully suppress communications, navigation and target location, and the use of high-precision weapons”, said Mikheyev, who did not give further details of the claimed military breakthrough.

“The system will be used against cruise missiles and will suppress satellite-based radio location systems.

“It will actually switch off enemy weapons.”

The system is due to be fully tested in the near future.

“Ground tests are now going on in workshops,” he said.

“At the end of the year, the system’s component will leave the factory gates for trials at testing ranges.”

Signs of the Times – Pray for America – Pray for Awakening

My heart weeps for America.

And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. (Isaiah 59:14, K.J.V.)

Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. (Isaiah 59:14, N.L.T.)

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20, N.A.S. B.)

Signs of the Times – Dividing Jerusalem

THE OBAMA PEACE PLAN INCLUDES PERMANENTLY DIVIDING THE CITY OF JERUSALEM

Michael Snyder

Barack Obama’s “two state” peace plan would not just permanently divide the land of Israel. It would also permanently divide the city of Jerusalem. It is anticipated that the “Kerry Plan”, which is expected to be revealed to the public soon, will call for a Palestinian capital in east Jerusalem without specifying the exact borders.

According to some media reports, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has approached Palestinian leadership with the idea of locating the Palestinian capital in the neighborhood of Beit Hanina. Of course the details of any peace agreement will change as negotiations progress, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear – the Palestinians will never accept an undivided Jerusalem and the U.S. government is going to pressure Israel to hand part of the holy city over to them. But if Israel gives in and accepts a “peace plan” that includes the permanent division of Jerusalem, it will end up being absolutely disastrous for Israel, for the Palestinians and for the United States.

In many ways, the Obama administration finds itself stuck between a rock and a hard place, and the status of Jerusalem is the most “burdensome stone” of all. Obama and Kerry desperately want to cement their legacies by getting the Israelis and the Palestinians to agree to a peace plan before Obama’s term is over, but the two sides are far apart on a number of issues.

The Palestinians have convinced Obama and Kerry that they will never, ever accept a deal that does not include a Palestinian capital in east Jerusalem, so Obama and Kerry have decided that their best bet is to try to get the Israelis to cave in on their demand for an undivided holy city.

It is now an open secret that the Kerry Plan is going to call for a Palestinian capital in east Jerusalem. The following comes from a recent article by Thomas Friedman of the New York Times…

The “Kerry Plan,” likely to be unveiled soon, is expected to call for an end to the conflict and all claims, following a phased Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank (based on the 1967 lines), with unprecedented security arrangements in the strategic Jordan Valley. The Israeli withdrawal will not include certain settlement blocs, but Israel will compensate the Palestinians for them with Israeli territory. It will call for the Palestinians to have a capital in Arab East Jerusalem and for Palestinians to recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people.
And the Palestinians clearly believe that the Kerry Plan will give them a capital in east Jerusalem. What Palestinian officials are concerned about now is that it will be too small…

Abbas said in his speech late Thursday that he would not compromise on a demand for a Palestinian capital in east Jerusalem.

Earlier Thursday, Abbas’ aide Mohammed Ishtayeh said he believes the Kerry proposal will only refer to such a capital “in Jerusalem,” raising fears the Palestinians will be asked to make do with a small part of the eastern sector.
And as I mentioned above, Kerry appears to be pushing for Beit Hanina to be the capital of the Palestinians. The following is an excerpt from a recent article in the Guardian…

Reported proposals for a Palestinian capital in the east Jerusalem suburb of Beit Hanina, Israel’s retention of 10 West Bank settlement blocs, permanent control of the Jordan valley and the demand to recognise Israel as a Jewish homeland do not add up to a package that would likely be acceptable to even the most pliable Palestinian leader: thus the claim that President Mahmoud Abbas “exploded” when told of it by Kerry in Paris last weekend.
Most people don’t realize this, but this has actually been in the works for a very long time. In another article, I detailed how Obama has been promising east Jerusalem to the Palestinians since at least 2009.

Obama is always careful with his words regarding Jerusalem in public speeches, but what happens in private appears to be another matter entirely.

And very few people know this, but Barack Obama’s brother is actually extremely anti-Israel. The following is from a recent article by Walid Shoebat and Ben Barrack…

While in Sanaa, Yemein in 2010, President Barack Obama’s brother Malik Obama was at an event billed as the Orphans Development Fund (ODF) Conference. It’s quite the ironic title considering a group photo Malik is in that he has posted to his website. In the photo, he can be seen wearing a Hamas scarf (keffiyeh) that bears a well-known Palestinian slogan – ‘Jerusalem is ours – WE ARE COMING!’ It also includes a map of Palestine that says, ‘From the River to the Sea!’ In other words, Malik is saying, THERE IS NO ISRAEL.
Here is that photo…

And the sentiments expressed by Malik Obama truly represent the beliefs of the Palestinian authorities.

They are fully convinced that the entire land “from the river to the sea” belongs to them, and that is why they will never recognize that Israel is a Jewish state.

In fact, the foreign minister for the Palestinian Authority reiterated this just the other day…

The foreign minister for the Palestinian Authority says Palestinians will “never accept under any circumstances” the idea that Israel is a Jewish state, negating the 3,000 year Jewish connection with the Holy Land.

Foreign Minister Riad Malki, in an interview with the London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsatcharacterized the Israeli government demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state as the most intractable issue facing the current round of peace talks sponsored by Secretary of State John Kerry.

“This is a sharply contentious issue. It would be dangerous to recognize this because this would mean our acceptance of the dissolution of our own history and ties and our historic right to Palestine,” Malki said.
Originally, the U.S. government was trying to get the Palestinians to agree to recognize Israel’s right to exist, but now the State Department has even backed down on this…

The United States believes there is no need for the Palestinian Authority (PA) to recognize Israel as a Jewish state as part of a peace agreement, State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Saturday.

Psaki, who spoke to the PA-based Arabic-language Al-Qudsnewspaper, said, “The American position is clear, Israel is a Jewish state. However, we do not see a need that both sides recognize this position as part of the final agreement.”
Unbelievable.

What a “peace plan” – Israel is supposed to permanently divide the holy land and permanently divide the city of Jerusalem, and in return all they are going to get is a vague promise of peace that could be broken at any time. The Palestinians are not even going to be required to recognize that Israel has a right to exist.

And let there be no doubt – the Palestinians do not plan to ever have lasting peace with Israel.

Sheikh Ikrema Sabri, a very high-ranking Muslim cleric in Jerusalem, said the following just the other day…

“We know the confrontation with Jews and Zionism will not end tomorrow. This is going to be a long confrontation and I have no doubt that Muslims will triumph in the end.”
These are not people that want peace. Just recently, Hamas unveiled a giant statue of a rocket aimed at Israel, and it runs paramilitary camps for teens that train them “to follow in the footsteps of the suicide martyrs“.

In fact, during a graduation ceremony for those camps, Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said the following…

“Love death for the sake of Allah as much as our enemies love life”
And Fathi Hamad, the Interior Minister for Hamas, made it very clear at that same event who those “enemies” actually are…

“This generation, Allah willing, will vanquish Israel,” said Hamas Interior Minister Fathi Hammad.

“Let me congratulate you on your future victory,” Hammad continued, “and on the annihilation of Israel. As I said yesterday, they only have eight years left.”
Sadly, the young people that are being indoctrinated at these camps are totally buying into the propaganda…

Omar Dawabha, an eleventh-grader who took part in the training, was quoted on the website of Hamas’s interior ministry saying that “he learned how to safeguard our rights and principles.” Another student, Mohammed Abu Nar, addressed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem at the graduation ceremony.

“We are the pioneers of liberation, we are coming to purify you from the Zionists,” he said.
Anyone that believes that there will be lasting peace in the Middle East in such an environment is just being delusional.  Continue reading

Signs of the Times – Dividing of Jerusalem

I will gather the armies of the world into the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will judge them for harming my people, my special possession, for scattering my people among the nations, and for dividing up my land. (Joel 3:1-2)

Then I was given a measuring stick, and I was told, “Go and measure the Temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers. But do not measure the outer courtyard, for it has been turned over to the nations. They will trample the holy city for 42 months.

VATICAN SIGNS TREATY WITH “STATE OF PALESTINE”

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican signed a treaty with the “State of Palestine” on Friday, saying it hoped its legal recognition of the state would help stimulate peace with Israel and that the treaty itself would serve as a model for other Mideast countries.

Vatican Foreign Minister Paul Gallagher and his Palestinian counterpart, Riad al-Malki, signed the treaty at a ceremony inside the Vatican.

Israel expressed disappointment when the Vatican announced last month that it had reached final agreement with the “State of Palestine” on the treaty regulating the life of the Catholic Church in the Palestinian territories.

It repeated that regret in a Foreign Ministry statement Friday, saying the move hurt peace prospects and would discourage the Palestinians from returning to direct negotiations. It warned that it would study the agreement “and its implications for future cooperation between Israel and the Vatican.”

Gallagher, though, said he hoped the Vatican’s recognition “may in some way be a stimulus to bringing a definitive end to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which continues to cause suffering for both parties.”

He said that he hoped the treaty could serve as a model for the church in other Mideast countries, where Christians are a minority and often persecuted.

The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the U.N. General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state and had referred to the Palestine state since. But the treaty marked its first legal recognition of the Palestinian territory as a state.

Al-Malki called the treaty an “historic agreement” and said it marked “a recognition of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, freedom and dignity in an independent state of their own, free from the shackles of occupation.”

The United States and Israel oppose recognizing the Palestinian state, arguing that it undermines U.S.-led efforts to negotiate an Israeli-Palestinian deal on the terms of Palestinian statehood. Most countries in Western Europe have held off on recognition, but some have hinted that their position could change if peace efforts remain deadlocked.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon called the treaty itself one-sided, saying the text ignored “the historic rights of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel and to the places holy to Judaism in Jerusalem.”

Daniel Estrin in Jerusalem contributed.

Signs of the Times – Wars and Rumors of Wars

This is Unrestricted Warfare Whether We Admit It or Not

Unconditional_warfareIt shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that China is following the strategy they so eloquently explained in the 1999 strategic masterpiece, Unrestricted Warfare. Yet, we continue to seem shocked when we learn about some of the strategies being employed. The simple fact is that elements in China, along with Russia, are preparing to unseat American leadership from the world. This is no longer conjecture. The preponderance of the evidence is more than sufficient to draw a rational conclusion.

Let’s look at some of the critical facts. First, we know that information warfare is already at work and the goal is to displace American global leadership. From a Bill Gertz article last week in The Washington Times:

CHINESE COLONEL ON INFORMATION WARFARE

By Bill Gertz – – Wednesday, June 3, 2015

Retired Chinese Col. Liu Mingfu, one of Beijing’s most significant military supremacists, this week confirmed that China is using information warfare against its enemies.

Col. Liu spoke Monday night at the Georgetown home of Michael Pillsbury, a longtime consultant to the Pentagon on China, in promoting the English-language version of the colonel’s 2010 book, “The China Dream.” The book calls for China to replace the United States as global hegemon. The book’s ideas were adopted by Beijing’s communist rulers and have become the main “thought” of current party boss and President Xi Jinping.

Asked about the contradiction between official claims that China seeks peace and the covert use of the so-called three warfares — psychological, media and legal information operations — against enemies, Col. Liu said: “I don’t deny it….

Col. Liu in his book urged China to build up its military power to swiftly replace the United States as the world’s global power. He wrote that the U.S.-Chinese rivalry is a “competition to be the leading country, a conflict over who rises and falls to dominate the world.”

“To save itself, to save the world, China must prepare to become the [world’s] helmsman,” he states.

It is important to understand that many in the Chinese leadership see war with America to be inevitable. America doesn’t want to hear that but it’s true. Americans naively want to believe that China is content as a trading partner motivated solely by global profit. Chinese intentions are far greater than that. They are teaming with Russia to take control. That’s been a long-term strategy that was proposed by Russia but rejected by China in 2008. We have reason to suspect that the Chinese are prepared to consider it now.

Chinaatwar

The issue is that China is no longer willing to allow America to set terms. Their South China Sea ambitions will not be checked without risking war. That’s their clear message as shown in this UK Telegraph article:

US-China war ‘inevitable’ unless Washington drops demands over South China Sea

May 26, 2015

Warning from state-run China newspaper as Beijing reveals plans for development of disputed South China Sea islands

China has vowed to step up its presence in the South China Sea in a provocative new military white paper, amid warnings that a US-China war is “inevitable” unless Washington drops its objections to Beijing’s activities.

While most of the American media has chosen to ignore the evidence (Bill Gertz being a rare and valuable exception), the UK papers have been more truthful. Perhaps the British are better positioned to recognize a lagging Empire. Kudos to DRUDGE REPORT who puts significant headlines into the American conscience.

How China and Russia are teaming up to erode American dominance

While the US military is still the most formidable in the world, Beijing and Moscow are catching up.

May 12, 2015 By Tom Phillips, Beijing and Tom Parfitt, Moscow.

China has dispatched a convoy of warships for its first ever naval exercises in the Mediterranean, together with a Russian flotilla.
The drills demonstrate a strengthening bond between Moscow and Beijing, who – despite having no formal military alliance – see their combined might as a counterbalance to US power. Both countries have been modernising their armed forces, and while their equipment still lags behind top-end Western technology, experts say they are closing the gap.

Xi Jinping came to power in 2012 vowing to dedicate his presidency to building the “Chinese Dream” of the “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”.
Part of that dream involves a major overhaul of China’s 2.3 million-man military which is three-times the size of Russia’s but which critics say has become bloated, corrupt and unfit for battle.

“Chinese leaders see a strong military as critical to prevent other countries from taking steps that would damage China’s interests and to ensure China can defend itself, should deterrence fail,” said a Pentagon report released on Friday.

Before focusing on traditional military efforts, however, it is more important to recognize the information, subversion, and economic warfare methods already being waged against us.

In regard to economic espionage, The Wall Street Journal reported:

U.S. Charges Six Chinese Citizens With Economic Espionage

May 19, 2015 by Andrew Grossman

U.S. alleges group, including three professors, stole sensitive wireless technologyWASHINGTON—Six Chinese citizens, including three professors who trained together at the University of Southern California, stole sensitive wireless technology from U.S. companies and spirited it back to China, the Justice Department charged.

The six individuals allegedly swiped trade secrets from U.S. companies Avago Technologies and Skyworks Solutions Inc. relating to how to filter out unwanted signals in wireless devices, according to an indictment unsealed late Monday.

They then set up a joint venture with China’s state-controlled Tianjin University to produce and sell equipment using the technology, according to the indictment, and won contracts from both businesses and “military entities.”

The U.S. companies supply components for Apple’s iPhone, among other devices. Authorities said the case demonstrates persistent efforts to steal American technology developed in places like Silicon Valley, where Avago’s U.S. operations are based.

“Sensitive technology developed by U.S. companies in Silicon Valley and throughout California continues to be vulnerable to coordinated and complex efforts sponsored by foreign governments to steal that technology,” San Francisco U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag, whose office is prosecuting the case, said Tuesday.

It is important to understand that China has an elaborate space warfare strategy where every American satellite would be put at risk. That is a pretty powerful economic warfare weapon. Then, when you consider China’s massive cyber warfare capabilities, there is every reason to be concerned. The recent revelation of a massive government data breach is only the most recent example of this effort. What do we know?

http://player.cnbc.com/cnbc_global?playertype=synd&byGuid=3000386226&size=640_360

  1. The breach compromised very serious U.S. government databases.
  2. The database information goes back to 1985.
  3. The database contains sensitive information that has the potential to compromise U.S. national security.
  4. The hack was likely from China.

Consider this from The Washington Post:

With a series of major hacks, China builds a database on Americans

By Ellen Nakashima June 5, 2015

China is building massive databases of Americans’ personal information by hacking government agencies and U.S. health-care companies, using a high-tech tactic to achieve an age-old goal of espionage: recruiting spies or gaining more information on an adversary, U.S. officials and analysts say.

Groups of hackers working for the Chinese government have compromised the networks of the Office of Personnel Management, which holds data on millions of current and former federal employees, as well as the health insurance giant Anthem, among other targets, the officials and researchers said.

“They’re definitely going after quite a bit of personnel information,” said Rich Barger, chief intelligence officer of ThreatConnect, a Northern Virginia cybersecurity firm. “We suspect they’re using it to understand more about who to target [for espionage], whether electronically or via human recruitment.”…

“This is part of their strategic goal — to increase their intelligence collection via big-data theft and big-data aggregation,” said a U.S. government official who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive topic. “It’s part of a strategic plan.”…

The data could help Chinese analysts do more effective targeting of individuals, said a former National Security Agency official. “They can find specific individuals they want to go after, family members,” he said.

“This is an intelligence operation designed to help the Chinese government,” the China expert said. “It’s a new phase in an evolution of what they’re doing. It certainly requires greater sophistication on their part in terms of being able to take out this much data.” Continue reading
